A construction firm has been named UK contractor of the year by restaurant KFC – and is on course to rubber-stamp its rapid growth by turning over £10m this year.
KFC has selected Trojan Construction Management from its hundreds of suppliers of goods and services in recognition of its on-time, snag-free track record, that has seen the Treforest firm build 24 new outlets across England and Wales.
On target to reach £10m turnover
Trojan, set up only three years ago by construction engineer Dave Thomas and quantity surveyor Shaun Welsh, has achieved a substantial turnover growth each year since, and is on target to reach £10m this year.
Three of the firm’s current sites – at Oxley, Shrewsbury and Middleton – featured in the recent three-part fly-on-the-wall BBC documentary about KFC called The Billion Dollar Chicken Shop.
The Treforest firm now employs some 40 people in the planning, design, management and construction of new retail, commercial and industrial sites.
It recently began work on its largest single project to date – a £1.75m leisure and retail complex at Portishead near Bristol.
Fifty years of experience between them
Dave, 47, and Shaun, 41, set up on their own in 2012 when their employer ceased trading.
Since then their reputation – and their order book – have soared.
The determined duo have nearly 50 years of industry experience between them and have been involved in high-profile projects such as the Butetown Tunnel at Cardiff Bay and the major refurbishment of Waterloo Station in London.
Speaking about the recent KFC accolade, Shaun said: “We feel it is a great honour because, if we can work successfully with a major enterprise that has the high standards of KFC, then we can work with anyone.
“We take a lot of pride in what we do and we treat people the way we want to be treated. That approach has paid off.
Top award from National Federation of Builders
“Our excellent working relationship with the KFC development team, including the construction managers, quantity surveyors, architects and structural engineers, has resulted in the successful completion of all projects either on time or ahead of schedule.”
Trojan has also won a top award from the National Federation of Builders in its first year of operation, while the firm routinely achieves Considerate Contractor ‘Performance Beyond Compliance’ recognition.
Richard Darler, construction director at KFC UK and Ireland, added: “We are incredibly pleased to name Trojan as our contractor of the year.
“Dave, Shaun and everyone else at Trojan have provided a consistently high standard of service and we look forward to our continued work together in the future.”
